Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then found multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important representative stated the attack rendered him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
