The minister stated that the ministry is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, however stressed that safety is a concern in all modern cars.
We have a collection of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a very small number.
However whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their car, not to have conversations at a classified classification in any kind of vehicle, because of the increasing threats of eavesdropping that exist in all automobile, to restrict those secret conversations in secure locations. That’s a prudent and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about security.
After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using all cars from China, the minister responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”
