Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.

She stated his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

The defendant engaged in a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, for good reason.

"They decided to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC stated objects including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson contacted the police about his worries.

She said the defendant continued to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she continued.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.

The prosecutor said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member contacted the authorities a second time.

She explained the man then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five children.
