Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
