Paceman Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Concerns.
'Significant concern' for England after Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.
Gus Atkinson further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the ground during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test against Australia.
Atkinson pulled up with his left leg immediately following a delivery that he bowled at the MCG.
Team management stated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and would spend time away from the action for further assessment "in the coming hours".
The concluding match of the tour in Sydney gets underway at the end of the week.
The visitors have previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.
A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.
His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, taking just three wickets.
He was omitted of the third Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match in the playing XI.
Atkinson improved at the MCG, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman being one of only three teammates who passed ten runs.
Following a brief spell late on the first day, he resumed for the second day's play and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.
Yet, towards the conclusion of that over, he delivered a variation to the batsman and immediately felt at his leg.
Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match following his omission of the third.
