Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with performances so bad.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
