Slot Offers No Excuses and Vows to Find Route Out of Malaise

Liverpool's head coach stated he had to “examine my own performance” following Liverpool suffered a 6th loss in 7 Premier League games at home to Nottingham Forest and insisted he would find a way from the title holders' poor run.

Nottingham Forest, in the relegation zone before kick off, delivered the biggest win at Anfield in their club records as Liverpool slipped to an eighth defeat in eleven fixtures in every tournament. The British record signing, Alexander Isak, was again unnoticeable and Liverpool contended the defender's first goal should have been ruled out for similar reasons to Virgil van Dijk’s disallowed effort against City before the international break. But Slot conceded the buck rested with him and made no excuses.

“No one wants to hear me now talking about officiating calls if you are defeated 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest,” stated the Reds' boss. “I should examine my own role first and my team, but it does show you how a goal can alter the momentum of a game. Earlier I was just hoping for us to score a goal. Afterwards we barely generated anything.

“Naturally there is a way out, especially with the talented players we have. No matter if you win or lose when you reflect you are always considering: ‘In which areas can we do better, in what aspects can we adjust?’ but that is different from doubting yourself.

“I want to stress I am accountable for the present defeats. You are answerable when you are winning but also liable when you are losing. I can never provide enough reasons for us to have the results we have. That is far from good enough and I am responsible for that.”

Liverpool’s performance fell apart as the coach introduced multiple attacking changes when pursuing the match. “It was the same away at Forest last season,” he remarked. “I substituted the French defender out and brought on the Portuguese forward and he scored straight away to equalize at 1-1. At that time it was courageous, currently it’s likely stupid.”

Liverpool last lost back-to-back home Premier League fixtures by Nottingham Forest in 1963. The most recent occasion they lost consecutive top-flight matches by a three-goal scoreline was in 1965.

The manager said: “It was very bad. Playing at home, conceding 3-0 regardless of which opponent you face is a very, very bad outcome. Unexpected if you look at the first half-hour of the match. I did not witness us creating so much in the opening half-hour maybe the entire campaign, and the initial occasion they arrived in our penalty area they found the back of the net.

“It wasn’t against Manchester City, but in all other fixture we have been the dominant team and were able to generate opportunities. Recently it is almost constantly that we fail to convert our chances and the attempts we allow find the net.”
