The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror Merging Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a girl harboring several personalities within her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four separate personas, all possessing unique anxieties and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips show the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to other people can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are unique to each person."

The core mechanic involves controlling whichever soul emerges at a particular moment. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the girl in succession. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms where their heads are. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four souls asserts that the body belongs to them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, since each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one remaining could be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
