The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several key changes:

  • Each team includes just 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else details all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
