The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family go about their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
