The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
