Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
